Complex oxides and quantum materials

Perovskites, polar surfaces, ionic crystals and functional oxides provide a platform for studying charge localization, reconstruction and emergent electronic states.

Scientific focus

We investigate surfaces of complex and ternary materials, including cleaved single crystals and perovskite oxides such as titanates, tantalates and niobates. Polar surfaces, ionic crystals and organohalide perovskites offer access to reconstruction, segregation, self-trapped charges and other electronic phenomena that are absent in simpler materials. We also explore scintillating and layered materials when their surface properties pose interesting fundamental questions.
