Summary
The project is aimed at development and characterization of nanostructured thin-film catalysts based on a combination of transition metals Co, Ni, or Fe and cerium oxides as potential alternatives of current materials containing noble metals. Different configurations will be considered – oxide-supported metal nanoparticles, oxides doped by metals with various concentrations and dispersions, inverse arrangement of oxide on metal, and mixed oxides of cerium and a trans. metal. Reactions relevant for environmental and energy applications will be studied, mainly reforming of alcohols and hydrocarbons, CO oxidation, WGS reaction. The unique combination of spectroscopy, microscopy, and diffraction methods will be employed to bridge the traditional issues of materials and pressure gap. The research is expected to result in understanding mechanisms of elementrary processes taking part under realistic reaction conditions, elucidation of roles of diff. components of a catalyst and their mutual interactions, consequently aiding the optimization process of the catalyst composition and structure.
