The research is done in the following groups or laboratories at our department:

Surface Physics Group,
Thin Films Group,
Space Physics Group,
Vacuum Physics Group, and
Nanomaterials Group.
The suggested PhD projects do not cover full range of available topics.

General conditions

Ph.D. study in Czech and English
-
there are no tuition or fees for PhD students (in both Czech and English study program)
-
scholarship from 550 EUR up to 1000 EUR per month (minimum value of 10500 CZK/month)
-
possibility to obtain the University student project bringing additional support
-
most of PhD projects are further supported by research grants (contact particular supervisor) — such job position are connected with a salary additional to the monthly Ph.D. scholarship
-
full health and social insurances
-
an active role in presentation at major international conferences
-
guaranteed accommodation in the nearby students‘ hostel (2-bed rooms, approx. 4000 CZK/month))

applications: April 30 each year (via web application form)

entrance exam: half of June each year, consists of English and physics exams

the conditions, lectures and study is the same for both Czech and English program (native Czech/Slovak speakers are expected to apply for Czech program, the rest is expected in English one)
Study information
In the first and second year, there are some compulsory courses and seminars. Up to the fourth year, presentation at the department winter seminar (January) and at the Week of Doctoral Students (June) is required. The latter is also connected with submission of proceeding paper as well as with review of others' work.
For successful study, two published scientific articles are required. It is expected that part of your study is to stay for a few months abroad at some scientific institute or other university.
